Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say initial examinations indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for information.
An important political figure stated the attack left him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
